The EtherFast 5-Port 10/100 Auto-Sensing Hub from Linksys is the quickest way to build or expand a Fast Ethernet network. Each port automatically detects and negotiates 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps connections (dual speed per port). You can mix 10BaseT and 100BaseTX hardware on the same hub without using a switch or any additional network hardware. The EtherFast 5-Port 10/100 Auto-Sensing Hub is perfect for small workgroups interested in expanding as their networking needs grow. You can easily connect to other hubs and switches by using the shared uplink port. When all ports on the hub are running at 100 Mbps, the uplink port becomes capable of sending data up to 100 meters (328 feet) at a blazing 100Mbps.

SMC SMC7004BR Cable/DSL Router with 4 Port Switch Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this unit instead of the less expensive competition because of my faith in SMC support. I have literally called up SMC's 800 number at 11:30 PM on a Sunday and had a friendly, knowledgable technician answer the phone and guide me through a network card install. I didn't need their support.
I know networking, but the little book was written for the brain damaged. Really easy to understand. The connection through to the unit was instant. I just used winipcfg to do a DHCP release and renew and there I was. I have Home.com cable. I just added the computer's ID for my home.com connection in the appropriate field, saved and rebooted. Voila, instant shared network on three computers.
Besides the two free Cat 5 cables, the print server feature is quite nice. I haven't used it yet, but I intend to. Also I'll probably add a dial up modem to the unit so I can have an easy fallback if home.com has an outage.

Cables To Go 26886 USB To DB9 Male Serial Adapter, Blue (0.45 Meters/1.5 Feet) Review

(More customer reviews)I had to load the XP drivers off the included driver CD, but otherwise, this adapter works perfectly fine.
PROS:
I had searched high and low for such an adapter so the fact that it exists is a big plus. The other plus is that it works perfectly fine. I think nearly all of the USB to serial adapters out there require you to load some type of driver first.
Also, this driver has a blue light (maybe an LED?) on it to let you know it's hooked in properly. The light didn't go on at first, but did once I loaded the drivers.
CONS:
The connection is very slow --- 9600 bps. I'm not sure if this is specific to this adapter or to all USB/Serial adapters.
My other complaint is that the driver put the adapter on COM port 9 (COM9) for some reason. I had to go under control panel and change it to COM1 before the adapter worked.
