Bull. A USB cable is a USB cable. The above statement is completely absurd, not to mention unprovable. It's akin to Monster selling HDMI cables at 500% markup. And USB cables are remarkably less complicated than HDMI cables.
Do yourself a favor and buy a reasonably priced replacement cable (they can be found on here for less than a dollar--check out this one for example) and leave this 'professional grade' cable alone. Don't waste your money on over priced wiring.

(More customer reviews)this is a pretty short review, its not a complicated device.
pros - as a generic retractable cable, it works great. it has a good manual release for retracting, rather than having to fully extend them to get it to automatically retract. it has the standard gomadic interchangable tip system, which tends to work very well.
cons - my 2 complaints are 1) that its much bulkier than previous versions i had purchased (not a major complaint), and 2) it will only sporadically actually charge the device i purchased it for (htc pro touch 2). i dont know what the cause is exactly, but it tends to only have a problem with this device (it charges my archos mp3 player fine, however that does use a different tip), and only seems to relate to charging. using this as a data cable seems to work fine.
do i recommend the device? sure - just not necessarily for a TP2.

(More customer reviews)When I got these cables I was a little freaked out. The cable that ships with the Eris is not a standard cable, these are standard mini-USB cables. To my surprise they fit just fine. The cable that ships with the Eric is non-standard for no reason! So not only is this a perfectly good cable but it will work with any other devices (PS3 controllers, digital cameras, hard drives, etc) that you may have that accept these cables.
