(More customer reviews)Contrary to two other reviews, this is a great item. The best price of any USB 56K modem, and easy to install and use. True, no instructions came with it, and the disk has lots of files on it, but it says right on the box, "Plug and Play", so I did. All I did was plug the modem into a USB port, and a message came up saying, "Insert the disk to load the driver". I inserted the disk, and my computer automatically found and installed the correct driver. So, no instructions necessary. You do have to update your dial-up connection properties on your computer to point to the COM port that the USB modem is plugged into, but that took 2 seconds. So within 5 minutes, I was up and running. Great product.

NETGEAR Wireless-N 150 DSL Modem Router DGN1000 Review

(More customer reviews)For less than the price of a regular modem from the phone company I got this modem/wireless router. Its really easy to set up (took less than 10 minutes) and it works great. I've got a desktop (via ethernet), laptop, & xbox 360 (both via wifi) hooked up and none of them are experiencing any problems. I've actually had a Netgear router before and never had any real problems out of it. I can't speak to anyone else's issues, but if this lasts a year or longer it'll have paid for itself IMO. (with the cable company I had to get a new POS motorola modem yearly).

(More customer reviews)I have att broadband and instead of leasing the modem ... per month, I was thinking, why not purchase a modem, where you can keep it. This modem comes out to be ... after rebate which if you are planning to have broadband for more than 7 months, this would pay for itself. I wish I had done it earlier because I have already paid for 5 months worth for the cable modem, I could have already own the modem. Setting it up was a piece of cake. I simply installed the driver as the instructions said, called at&t and gave them my modem's product number, plugged in my new modem and waalah, my modem was working. This modem comes with USB connection also, but I can't seem to get that to work, but I'm happy with the ethernet connection. Before buying this modem, check your broadband internet company's website to see if it is compatible with their system. Also, I heard that some companies charge you to pick up your old modem, mine said that they didn't but I didn't want to take the chance so I returned it to my local office myself. Also comes with a 5 year warranty, the nice looking linksys one comes with only a 1 year warranty, something to consider.

Cisco-Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless-B Cable/DSL Router Review

(More customer reviews)I am not sure what all the others had problems with but my Linksys worked great out of the box. Setting it up I had an issue that was easily fixed by calling tech support,(only 5 min wait and worth it, the technician was very good). My laptop which will be connecting wirelessly was not connecting no matter what I tried. It turns out that you can't run wireless cards and ethernet cards (mine was built in} at the same time because the machine will always default to the ethernet card. Which is exactly what was happening. We removed the driver for the ethernet card and it began to work great right away. Everything else about the setup was fairly simple and went very smooth the directions were easy to understand. I especially liked the quick installation sheet which is what I used to setup with.
I highly recommend this product and would buy it again if I had to do it all over. The distance of the wireless machine is really dependent on terrain. But for my two story house it was great. The only weak spot being downstairs in the opposite direction of the linksys base as far as I could go. However it still worked and was quite able to handle downloads even at the weakest point. You just can't go wrong till they come out with a new beakthrough in technology. But even then the prices will be to high in the beginning. For instance the new 802.11a is several hundred dollars more expensive then this machine. And for what you get I just don't need it.
This is a winner. The newest version of the product is BEF11S4 VER 2. Many of the reviews done in this section were about the
BEF11S4 its the same model number but lacking the ver.2 after the BEF11S4.
The newest version has fixed most of the bugs of the previous version. Good Luck!!! A very satisfied consumer

RCA DOCSIS External Cable Modem (DCM226) Review

(More customer reviews)Quite frankly, this is a horrible piece of hardware. I've had it for about 14 months now and it's given me nothing but headaches. For one thing, it consistently drops the cable signal about once every other week. How do I know this is not a problem with the cable company? My girlfriend has the same ISP, same LAN setup, the only difference is our cable modems (she has the a Zoom 5011 cable modem) and she NEVER drops her signal.
In addition to this, the incredibly poor design of the power dongle that attaches to the modem will cause you headaches to no end. Mine is so sensitive, that even slight movement of my desk will cause the modem to physically reset. This is absurd! I can't even touch the modem without having it reset because the power dongle is so sensitive to disturbances.
On top of all this, it tends to lose the connection when there is heavy traffic. For example, I've had many LAN parties at my house where we've played online games with 4-6 machines. After about 1-2 hours, the connection will simply die and the modem will require a reboot.
It's causing me more headaches now as I am running an in house server that I'm using as the development server for one of my classes. It is consistently dying due to the aforementioned power dongle issue, thus causing problems for the rest of the group memebers who need to access the server to develop on it.
Bottom line, you're better off getting the Zoom 5011 or Toshiba PCX2200. My RCA modem is getting replaced ASAP! I don't know how I put up with it for so long.
